The Monday 6 - June 7, 2021

The Monday 6
Hello, friend.
COVID-19 infections continue their freefall in the United States, 41% of all people are fully vaccinated, and life really feels more & more normal.
I hope you’re doing well.
Onto the 6!

1. A Beautiful Light Painting
Literally, how do people do this? Wait until the end to see the final result.

2. Show The Real Price On Airbnb
Airbnb’s fees are getting out of hand. The “gotcha” factor of these fees (like $200 for cleaning, $100 service fee, etc.) are user-hostile and just a pain when you’re trying to find the best place to stay.
Hopefully, Airbnb will consider altering their approach (although I can almost guarantee they’ve A/B tested this and the result was higher sales), but until then, download & install the Airbnb Price Per Night Corrector extension.
The extension will pull forward those fees and make them more transparent when browsing the site.

3. Adam Grant On How To Be Open To Changing Your Mind
When was the last time you changed your mind? In this podcast episode of “The Knowledge Project”, Adam Grant (psychologist, author, and professor) provides a framing for how to be open to changing your mind. Give it a listen!

4. Using Metric Paper To Explore The Universe
I had no idea metric-based paper was so elegant, but then again, of course it is.
This video uses the elegance of this system to show the scale and scope of the universe. It’s kind of difficult to explain, but hard to stop watching. Give it a try.

5. 5 Valuable Mental Models
A good tweet thread on some practical and valuable mental models. Of the 5, my favorites are:
  • Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”
  • Gates’ Law: “We overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in ten years.”

6. 101 Dalmatians Sequel
So, I never read “101 Dalmatians” nor the sequel “The Starlight Barking”, but man…now I kind of want to. Check out this tweet thread for a quick summary of this bonkers story.
Owl! at the Library 😴🧙‍♀️
So, most people are unaware that One Hundred and One Dalmatians, the novel, has a bonkers sequel called The Starlight Barking.

It has never been filmed. It can never be filmed. It is unfilmable.
